Cool Chap has returned to racing in smart form this time and remains an outright $7.50 favourite in 2016 Ballarat Cup betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Nozomi ($8), Lady Le Fay and Lidari; currently sharing the third line at generous $8.50 quotes.

Will Cool Chap justify favouritism and win the 2016 Ballarat Cup, or will one of his talented rivals post an upset?

Cool Chap ($7.50)

A proven performer at the class and distance, Cool Chap is drawn to get the run of the race in the Ballarat Cup from barrier 3 and will carry only 54kgs. Posting a career total of three wins and six minors through only twelve competitive starts, Cool Chap was a standout for Lee and Anthony Freedman in autumn; winning the Listed VRC St Leger (2800m) and placing third in the Group 1 South Australian Derby (2500m) most notably. Placing second in the Listed Sale Cup (1600m) before running sixth in the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes (1800m) last weekend, the High Chaparral gelding will relish a step up in distance this weekend and should prove tough to beat.

Turnitaround ($10)

Turnitaround has been charged with carrying a race-high 60kgs in the Ballarat Cup, but the horse will carry winning form into the race and his class is sure to count for plenty. Resuming for third in the Group 3 Moonga Stakes (1400m) on October 15th, the Hard Spun gelding failed to sustain his run late when tenth in the Listed James Boag’s Premium Stakes (1800m) on Melbourne Cup Day, but responded with a smart win in the Eclipse Stakes last weekend. Blake Shinn will ride Turnitaround in the Ballarat Cup from barrier 13.

Taiyoo ($17)

Taiyoo has found excellent form leading into the Ballarat Cup and is undoubtedly over the odds at his current $17 quote for success, or $5.80 to finish in the first three. Posting an impressive career record of fourteen wins and five minors through thirty-nine starts, the Haradasun gelding ran third in the Chandler Macleod Handicap (2040m) on October 21st before returning to winning form in the Kyneton Cup (2000m) on November 2nd.
