Price Confident in 2014 Ballarat Cup Chances of Count Of Limonade

Returning to racing in typically competitive form through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival so-far, trainer Mick Price is confident classy import Count Of Limonade is in the right form to take out Saturday’s Listed Ballarat Cup (2200m).

Count Of Limonade failed to beat a single runner home in the Wedrive Plate (1400m) first-up on August 30th, but quickly found condition in finishing sixth in the Listed Penang Trophy (1800m) and winning the featured Moe Cup (2050m) on October 16th.

Unlucky to be blocked for a run when fifth in the Listed Bendigo Cup (2400m) last time out, Price told Racing Victoria he has been thrilled with the continually building form and a condition of the Duke Of Marmalade entire and is expecting another performance in the 2014 Ballarat Cup.

“He’s got plenty of races to win, he probably just needs Ballarat to be the right rating for him,” Price said.

“We’ll definitely accept with him and (Dean) Yendall will ride.”

Securing a credible total of five race wins and a further four minor places from his 16 competitive appearances on course so far, Count Of Limonade began his racing career under the guidance of leading Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien in early 2012 before transferring to Australia and the care of Price at the conclusion of his 2013 campaign.

Finishing in the places in events such as the renowned Group 3 Gallinule Stakes (2011m) and Listed King George V Cup (2212m) and winning the Listed Millennium Millionaire Stakes (1609m) in his final appearances abroad, Count Of Limonade produced two competitive performances in his short debut campaign in Australia through autumn this year; placing sixth in the Macaulay Handicap (1400m) first-up and seventh in the Lt. Peter Armytage Handicap (1610m) on April 25th.
