King Diamond Wins 2012 Ballarat Cup – Race Results

November 26th, 2012

King Diamond has won the Listed Ballarat Cup, which took place at Ballarat racecourse yesterday November 25, 2012.

The six-year-old was having just his second start for trainer Jarrod McLean.

King Diamond won the race by a nose in front of Pelicano, who finished second, and Exceptionally, who placed third.

The Danewin gelding has now won six of his 25 starts and has earned more than $430,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.

McLean was over the moon with King Diamond’s win after spending his time rejuvenating the horse’s sore joints with training trips to the beach.

Prior to being sent to McLean’s stables, King Diamond was trained by Mark Kavanagh and Peter Moody.

“It’s a big thrill and an advertisement for the beach at Warrnambool,” McLean said.

“He came to me from two very good trainers in Mark Kavanagh and Peter Moody.

“I backed right off him to get him feeling better.

“These old horses can gallop. You’ve just got to get them sound and the beach is the key.”

King Diamond was paying odds of $41 to win the 2012 Ballarat Cup at bookmaker.com.au.

Race favourite Seratorius finished seventh in the 2012 Ballarat Cup field and was unable to keep his unbeaten spring preparation alive.
